Corrosion

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

Yes, indeed I am the rusty. Took me a while to get situated with my new tablet, and accustomed to new software and to scrounge up my old wacom brush I absolutely can’t live without! I feel confused and disoriented, but I’ll be back in the swing eventually. Meanwhile, enjoy a lovely fanart of Zedwig by LNilstria expressing his secret musical side by clicking on the thumbnail to the left! Wow, an elf playing a musical instrument… could it get any better? No, it could not.

By the way, NaNoWriMo-ites: My NaNo name is “colbycheese“, and friend me if you want! I’m probably going to lose. I’ll win the “most pessimistic” award, anyway. I lost last year and wrote “Bactine Gallagher” and “Fromage” as a result of trying, so it worked out all right.

Ballyhoo.

Disorganization

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

Hey guys, just a note to let you know the next page is in the works, I’m just still too disorganized after the move to get it together quite yet. Probably it’ll be up on Friday, possibly tomorrow. The lineart is giving me fits, and I’m quite certain it’s the hardest page I’ve ever drawn. Who’s idea was it to draw four archers drawing bows in one panel?! Oh right…. mine. Remind me never to do that again.

Endorphine

Friday, October 24th, 2008

Whoa, now I remember why I do this. This page was downright exhilarating to complete. A pain in the butt to create, but when it came together, it was allllllll worth it. I think I’ve got the artist’s version of runner’s high right now.

NaNoWriMo people: one more week and a day until it starts! If you didn’t catch it before, here’s my page, and friend me if you want! Also, Annalia started a Lint NaNo people forum thread, so head over there and tell us about your book! Enough exclamation points.

My book is going to be about Teitnl and Henry, who barely even made a tiny minor appearance in Lint, but is ripe for all sorts of narrative discourse. Here’s a sketch from my brainstorming. Unrelatedly, here’s a halfway done colored pencil of Camilla.

Lastly, for everybody who voted for Geeves as awesomest minor supporting character, I don’t think I ever showcased this particular painting of him with his quarterstaff. Also, I got some hate mail for not including Stump in the voting arena for best hair. Hate mail, you hear me?? Actually he was very nice in his email. So I’ve adjusted the poll to allow those people who love Stump’s hair best of all to have their voice heard.

Thanks for reading!

Just Desserts

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

I don’t know… when I drew this it was very satisfying. Although Fang isn’t exactly getting much of a comeuppance from Zedwig here, I could feel at least a tinge of the liberation Zedwig is experiencing at even the thought of being free from Fangline. It’s making him so giddy he’s about to jump on the crazy train, if he hasn’t already.

Three days until Nano, everybody! Turn on the sirens and get your outlines cranking! Meanwhile, join the Lint addicts discussion on the NaNo forums to tell us about your plot… so we can steal it. And that’s the royal “we”.

Speaking of nothing, I got a very informative letter from a certain intelligent reader this past week regarding Xylic yelling “Fire!” on last Friday’s page:

I’m not sure if you’ve done the same thing in the past, but one does not “fire” an arrow. Fire assumes there is propulsion behind the projectile. You fire a gun…but you ‘loose’ an arrow, since what makes an arrow go is the kenetic energy created by pulling the arrow back on the bow string.

I always did love physics/semantics talk. So, you see, technically, “Fire!” is wrong, but to our twenty-first century sensibilities it sounds so right. Now we know, and knowing is half the battle. Thanks, Laura!

By the way, I absolutely adore the color palette with the scenes between these two. I would paint in those colors all day.

Writing and Voting!

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

Hey everybody, guess what? It’s November 1st already, and that means NaNoWriMo has begun! Listen to the sound of furious clacking keyboards everywhere! Keep up with how I’m doing here, and maybe we can encourage each other here.

In other news, and this is really big, I’ll have to admit that I left the voting arena because adult and pornographic comics were listed in the same listing as mine. Near mine. Where anyone could click it. I don’t think that’s cool. But Frumph did something about it! His listing no longer lists adult/NC-17 comics in his webcomic list and I think that’s the awesomest thing ever. So if you want to support this kind of positive movement, please vote for Lint with the Frumph voting button to the right. Also, if you register at Frumph and favorite Lint, my comic rating gets a big boost! Let’s see if we can get Lint to #1 and really make a statement about how we support this kind of responsibility in webcomic lists!

(EDIT) – Enjoy reading my NaNo novel unfold here.

Incentives are back!

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

Yes, well, I know incentives don’t seem to be necessary since you guys have been kind enough to vote liberally so Lint is #1 on the list, but I like the whole incentive feature because I can give people who like spoilers a preview of the next comic. So! If you want a 2-panel preview of the next comic, click the voting button in the right sidebar!

Enjoy, and thanks!

An Update…

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

Hey guys, sorry it’s taking so long for a new comic to be out, but we are actually buying/moving into our new house next week so things are a little batty right now. However, I will be updating on Tuesday if you want to check back.

If you really want some Lint action of some kind, you can read my ongoing NaNoWriMo novel The Illusionist’s Apprentice here!

Thanks for reading and hopefully understanding my extenuating update circumstances!

Escape from Witch Mountain

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

I am so caught up in Henry’s Tale it’s not even funny, but still, here’s a comic. These are fun, too. I went a little crazy experimenting with Al’bert’s glamour. I tried looking over several sparkle tutorials, but ended up just painting my own style.

Check out the great fanart of Bactine by Purplefire

Also read her comic! She’s a great lady. Thanks, Purplefire, I miss that firefly scene… it was over too soon.

Regarding fanart, I have a backlog I need to put up on my fanworks page, so please bear with me! Once I get entirely moved and settled I can start doing some much needed maintenance to the site, like the fanart page and the nonexistent characters page.

By the way! If anyone wants to assist me in creating a “cast” page, it would be a huge help right now as I’m too busy to put it together. All it needs is a list of each character and a brief overview of who they are. If you’re bored and/or interested, email me or let me know!

And speaking of moving… my last move of this gargantuan move-that-is-about-to-kill-me is coming this week as we move into our final residence! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. You have no idea what it’s like herding four kids in a tiny tiny tiny apartment. NO IDEA. Unless you’ve done it yourself. Then you do know. Anyway, my sanity is mostly intact, but I won’t update again until next week probably. Thanks for holding on through this insane miasma of moving and sporadic updates, guys!

Thanks for reading!

Vote Incentive

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Vote using the Frumph button on the right to see a 2-panel rough preview of comic #369!

Plus: I hate moving!

Ugh

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

I’m starting to lose my patience with this move. Not only am I still surrounded by boxes, I have some kind of mutant cold and, to top it all off, I injured my left hand somehow during the past weekend’s move. I’m left handed. I’m not sure yet how extensive of an injury it is, but it hurts. I’m on the wall about either working through it, which is usually what I do when I get pains and so on from running, or resting it, which often only weakens whatever body part it is and doesn’t tend to do me much good. Then again, if I try to work it out and end up making it worse that would suck more, so I don’t really know what to do. For those who don’t know I’m a pianist and having an injured hand is BAD. (Plus I can’t draw or write to potential either, but those are just my hobbies)

I don’t want a permanent injury, and in the past five years or so I’d gotten really good at managing my hands, never getting that nasty tendonitis burn, and I’m one of the few pianists in the program at school who sneaked away without obtaining carpal tunnel syndrome in some form or other. I haven’t even had to don a brace for at least 4 years. I might have to now, though. I don’t know.

Anyway, like I said, I’m losing my patience with this move. If I get a hand injury from it on top of everything else I’m going to murder the state of Texas. And if I don’t start getting my regular Lint fix I’m going murder everyone … IGNOMINIOUSLY.

That said, no update today, and I’m more frustrated than you are.
