#428 – Discussion in a dream

Oof! Yes, this seems miraculous to me that I made it. I think I caused damage to my brain trying to get this finished in time. My life is teh crazy lately and there is NO time for comics. Well, I made some time anyway.

Heh. Maybe they ended up with The Evil Illusionest No One Likes.
  • LuckyMrph
OMG ur brilliant Colby!!! But I still have a BURNING question that hasn't been answered..... What is Sangwine's middle name? is it as terrible as mine? I will seriously make something up for him just so I don't go crazy! I just love Bactine's dress! btw, did they just magically change clothes?
  • Rachael
bactine looks sly in all her pictures lately............. i has an uh oh feelin
  • LuckyMrph
uh oh Rachael! I think it's just yooou!
  • Rachael
yeah why did his clothing change?
  • HelenaHermione
I had a sense of the surreal, too, when we got to that last panel--

But yes, something strange is going on here--I'm looking at you, Colby...this is definitely more than some ordinary dream; Sangwine probably thinks it's normal, maybe he dreams about Bactine all the time and talking to her like this--he's more heavily involved in what's going on than Bactine is. Bactine...is a little bit distant--she's not really there, in that moment, or at least I think--maybe it's part of the 'angelic' aspect, being out-of-this-earth, but there's something a little strange there. And I have the idea that this manifestation means something, in terms of what happens after this...

I love the second panel... LOVE... to death!! Bactine's hair looks perdy. :3
  • PaladinOfNature
I assume the sudden change of scenery and clothing is due to the fact that Sang is asleep ^^ Beautiful page as always!
  • well... acording to the elfpedia, their dreams tend to lack of some action and emotion and... you know, no tv that times, oh well, despite the greeting poke I could say that she is not the Bactine of always, practically look already bored in the end
  • Jessla
But ... isn't the whole premise of this "dream" emotional? That's some interesting information there, but Colby doesn't seem to usually go that deep w/ the comic ... maybe I've missed a very large undercurrent, though, LOL. Cool research!
  • Lissy
Um, is it just me, or is Bactine acting a little odd? This just seems too casual.
  • zadiena
I love the way sangwine doesn't really care that he's in a dream talking to someone who is dead. Although the way that necklace glowed I'm thinking that it's not quite a dream. I wish the others would pop up in their roles in this time soon though. I mean what happened to everybody after the battle?!?!
  • ellie
I'm loving Bactines expressions all through this page. It looks like she knows something Sang doesn't know and she's feeling sly about it.
  • Jessla
yep, I'm definitely loving the smug looks, too. Quintessential Bactine! LOL
  • Katt
Why in Sangs coat suddenly red in the last panel? =o
  • CC
Ha, *we* know what happened to them... well the first part of it anyway. I'm confused by the costume change in the last panel though... is it just another surreal aspect of the dream or are they suddenly back in time or what?
  • Falco
Looks like they're outside, too. I'm really curious to see where this is going (and the art is looking extra amazing these days)
  • Willow
Maybe it's like how the settings in dreams often reflect what's going on at the front stage at any given moment. Bactine asks about being a king, and they're in the king's study. But then they discuss scouts and searches, and they're outdoors, and at a place where they've got a good vantage point of the land.
  • spas
i LOVE that idea, willow - awesome line of thinking there!
  • CC
True... but I think that specifically, they're on the balcony off Zedwig's room where Bactine died. I wonder if theres some significance there?
  • Mikan
Bactine's also in the outfit that she died in.
