#420 – Bactine

Either it takes less time to make a comic with this snazzy tablet, or I’m more motivated now that everything’s coming to fruition, or a little of both, but comics are coming out way easy lately and I feel a push to get the rest out as fast as possible.

This one made me cry when I drew it :(

I sent out my first wave of donation incentives out this week, a little more than a third of them, and I’ll be sending out another wave in the next few days. I hope to get everything sent out by the end of next week.

    me too! healing the mages 'used up' the other healers, or some such, but maybe there will be some kind of miracle here, we don't know yet. i hope she's still alive!

    I love Sanguine's model-on-the-beach pose in the first panel, and his goofy smile, but of course, that last one... :(

    Incidentally, I was under the impression that empaths take the wound or whatever upon themselves and then heal/expell the wound from themselves. If I'm correct, then I think Bactine needs to work on the 'ridding oneself of a wound' part.

    Bactine just healed two incredibly hurt people (well, elves- but still)
    She would be extremely tired even if she managed to rid herself of both injuries...
    Maybe she's sleeping? :(

    Well, obviously, Sangwine has to tell the truth as king with t he Pendant...

    The bit about Sangwine's father is promising--the only thing he can do with his blood is to bring back to life the family tree of the Schoeffl line (last name??) and that means Bactine...

    And there was that bit about kings, unicorns, and fairies, which is hopeful in Bactine's case since we remembered what Hope did to save Sangwine in Pixie Pass...

    Now, what does nothing mean ? Nothing of what ? I'd like to believe that it a good omen, but then I remeber than between two people of different lifespans, love rarely ends well. It's hard to imagine her growing into a old hag while dashing wealthy Sang goes on with life, and with the more powerful mage gone Colby kwos were, it's hard to imagine how they can sort that problem.
    Yet, whatever you choose, I think it will be ok, you will makes it so.

    This is going to sound odd, but I love comics where not ALL the good guys survive. In war there are many casualties, and actually letting a character we love die is showing a level of realism which is rare.

    I am, of course, saddened by Bactine's death, but given how we last saw her I am unsurprised, and therefore not half as strongly affected as most other commenters.

    We will see where it goes from here.

    This is pretty much my take on it. Comics where everyone we like always lives may be more cheerful, but they don't have the same depth, at least not to me. Bactine's death is (would be, if she's not really dead) a tragedy, but a good one.

    Very true, but not only that but Bactine + Sang couldn't really work out. Prince elf can't marry any human. It just couldn't work out. She needed to leave somehow.

    I still assume she isn't dead or something.

    That's the reason I hope she *isn't* dead, though... I was curious to know how how they would work out the problem of their relationship, and to just have one or the other die seems too easy.

    Actually, I was going to add that as well- that it does help Sangwine out as he will no longer have to make an impossible choice.
    BUT. At the end of the day he's probably going to mourn for her longer this way- as they didn't get to have a life together- than if she died of old age, whether they were together or apart. So it's no blessing in disguise for him, really, is it?

    You know, Sangwine always reminded me somewhat of Guybrush, from Monkey Island. It's even worse (in a good way!) in that second to last panel, with his huge grin. He's in for a bad surprise, I'm afraid. :x
