It being so out-of-character is probably why he ever got to Zedwig. Good old mage was fast enough to stop Kelneth (RIP, loved you) so I'd expect him to be able to do the same with Derf – had he been thinking such a thing would ever happen.

Actually, I think it was before that. I'm not totally sure because it just dawned on me one day that I'd been subconsciously basing his looks on a painting of Schubert I'd always liked in college. So really it could have been earlier, or always. Who knows.
