#404 – Morality and wings

Ahem… sorry? Many of you expressed being willing to wait in order to keep full color, but after evaluating it from a few different angles, I concluded that color in every panel is definitely holding me back right now.

SO, there you have it. I’ll be coloring at least one panel in each page; at least all the best/prettiest ones will be colored. For the ones that aren’t so pivotal and/or would just be wasting my time to color I’ll use grayscale.

I also found that I can use this older tablet as well as the new, better one if I blow up images to 4x instead of 2x when I work on them, so at least ALL is not lost. :B

OOO! Man fairy! He's so incredibly cute!!! *SIGH* But evil.. *sticks tongue out*
  • Crystal
oh, wait, what is james? an angel? or a fallen one? omg i'm so funny, hahaha, ok i'm done
  • Equilla
The grey scale with only 1 colour panel looks awesome. Also it's important to do it how you want it, it's your property and work of art, and we don't want you being burnt out by the comic. It's important that you continue to enjoy doing Lint, in whatever form you want.
  • Eccentric
Oh, love this! :D It makes me really happy for some reason, the color-change... or rather, lack of color. Like I said earlier, I'm not bashing on your coloring (which is AWESOME) - but, variation is cool in my book. I love this page also.

For a split second I was like, "Ooo, flash back?" and then I was like, "Oh yeah!" It doesn't look too shabby. I'm pretty cool with it.
  • Hey James, try to follow this. :-)

You say that good and evil are relative. However, the statement that good and evil is relative is an absolute statement, therefore, that statement is false, since it's supposed to be relative. Therefore, good and evil are not relative, so James, you're an illogical churl. -^_^-

For us Christians, that argument is also applicable for use with the inane statement that truth is relative. :-)
  • Pedant
Erm, Lady Nilstria, I don't mean to offend you, but your logic in the above post kind of reminds me of the following mathematical 'proof':

    Let x = y
    x^2 = xy
    x^2 - y^2 = xy - y^2
    (x + y)(x - y) = y(x - y)
    (x + y) = y
    but x = y
    therefore x + x = x
    therefore 2 = 1

which is, of course, rubbish. Now, I don't mean to attack you, because I know morals are a much less defined subject than maths, but I just felt the need to point out that saying that one believes good and evil are relative is not remotely the same as saying that all statements about good and evil need also be relative. And the sooner you stop using that kind of argument to try to convince people that truth isn't relative, the more likely they are to listen to what you have to say.

    Best wishes,
    a Pedant

PS The last panel is fantastic! James's wings are rather awe-inspiring. ^.^
  • Oh yeah, let's not get into THAT most ancient of arguments! :D

Nobody ever wins in that one.

Just wanted to chime in with my approval! I discovered the comic a few months ago and devoured it in a few days, and then got to experience the joys of waiting for updates. I think more updates is totally worth less color!
    Also: Come on Xylic!
  • Jen
I have to admit, it looks quite good this way and I AM looking forward to the rest of the story...

I have been reading your comic for quite a while and its gone form strength to strength over the time. The quality that you're putting in now is quite astonishing. The reason I've decided to comment is - I love black and white comics! And black and white plus one colored panel just looks so stylish! So, not all of your readers want colours only :)
  • Thank you thank you thank you thank you :D

There definitely feels like the next step for me, even though there's some reader resistance.

Is there no Paypal donation button, or am I missing it?

I'd gladly chip in to get a new tablet for our favourite comic artist! :)

Color or no color, working 4x must be slower, more tedious, and also precludes a better view of the page.
  • Ohhh, how kind of you! There isn't one... although I'll be having a fund raiser next month to pay for my hosting renewal and maybe then I can also raise a bit to go towards a new tablet.

    :)

Wonderful as always, but I must be perfectly honest and say that James' face in the second panel looks quite odd, to the point of comedy. He doesn't look much like himself at all in that shot. But I do love this page overall, as well as the rest of the comic!
  • I wasn't going to mention it, but I feel that I must agree. I think the eye position, chin/beard, and mouth expression are what's throwing it off.

Though, you've had a 400+ page winning streak of keeping your characters uniform in facial structure, so I think messing up on one panel isn't too bad. :-D (Better then myself...trying to keep faces looking the same from panel to panel is hard work!!)

And since I'm being nitpicky, why is it that James grabs her upper arm in the fourth panel, yet is holding her wrist in the fifth?
  • Because he shifted his hand position.

Sci-fi Convention Attendee: "Uh... in Episode #43 when Chartros lands on Altrus 5 there's a definite blue tinge to his phaser, but later in the day the tinge is definitely red. Seeing as how he didn't have time or resources to change his phasers, what do you have to say about this discrepancy?"

  • It's weird seeing the characters in grayscale- but It still looks great. Having one panel colored is a good compromise. Thank you for having one of the best looking strips on the internet.
  • I too would like to see Xylic win the day! ... somehow.
  • KatEatzPirahna
I actually kinda like the grayscale :)

    And SQUEEEE on the wings!
  • Zypher
Hmmm... Well, like I said last page, it's your hobby. ^^

Though I think James' wings should totally be colored. I mean that IS the new feature! I wanna know what his wings look like! In color, I mean!
  • Haha, well... you will see his wings in color eventually, but it's not like they're gonna be pink or anything. They're white, which means they'll be the same color as in grayscale. :D
  • Zypher
Oh. I was hoping it would be something like light blue... v.v *grin*
  • mafion
I love how James' artfully tousled hairstyle also manages to suggest little curled horns on his head. With the gorgeous wings and all, he's wonderfully Luciferian! Luciferish. You know what I mean.
  • HelenaHermione
Devilish hair, devilish face--especially in the second panel. He just looks so earnestly evil in an amoral, ambiguous way--like before Lucifer the angel fell.
  • Men fairies have feathered wings. :-)

You know Colby, the one panel color adds a whole new scope of drama of dimension. I like it. :-D

Xylic should totally steal James's socks.
  • Anko
This would be a most opportune time for Xylic to do some more of his legendary eye shooting.
  • A Reader
*gasp* Is James a man-fairie!??!!? *faints*
  • Leigh
mm...man fairy. a fine man fairy he is too...
    if a bit evil.
