Mostly that's because when I first create a character, they don't tend to "gel" as far as how they're going to look until I've drawn that character a number of times. Which is why I should use character sheets before I put a new character in the comic, but I don't have time for that, so... them's the breaks.
They are long bows, it's just they shrink when put in a panel where their length looks awkward. Special, magical longbows. With fairies that live inside.
